Case Studies
CSMG analyzed the metropolitan-area networking
environment to assist a major ILEC in determining how best
to take advantage of evolving technologies, in particular
Gigabit Ethernet. We looked both at the competitive threat
posed by such technologies to our client's traditional SONET-based
services as well as the potential financial impact should
the client decide to deploy advanced optical technologies
for connecting its enterprise customers in the metro area.
Critical to this analysis was an understanding of the key
advantages of Gigabit Ethernet, and the specific markets-both
geographic and vertical segments-to which this technology
is best suited.
For an ILEC client facing a mandate by the CEO to reduce the
capital to revenue ratio by roughly twenty-five percent in
response to pressure from the financial community, CSMG developed
an analysis that brought together a detailed demand forecast
by product by CO incorporating complex product cross-elasticities
and a detailed multi-layered understanding of capital requirements.
The client was able to use this information to investigate
various scenarios of product deployment and arrive at an optimized
strategy that achieved the target objective.
