Case Studies
CSMG reviwed the model of cable properties
being acquired by a set of MSO clients, to make sure there
were no critical omissions, particularly in regard to RBOC
buildouts. We mapped the 75 cable markets under consideration
to a wireline database, and compared their demographics with
those where RBOCs were building or planning to build. Through
this effort, we were able to clarify the likely effect of
RBOC builds on our clients' investments, both in terms of
markets impacted and timing of impact. Our work served as
a sanity check for the clients' own models, testing key assumptions
in the light of national forecasts and specific market variables.
We highlighted areas of concern and made appropriate top-line
revenue adjustments to improve the model.
CSMG developed a market validation and channel strategy analysis
for an investor in a long-haul VoIP provider. We reviewed
the portfolio company's business plan, assessing its key assumptions
about the total addressable market and the competition for
market share, as well as key pricing trends. The market included
retail and wholesale LD minutes, web conferencing and IP VPNs.
To reach its market targets, this company needed to develop
channels that had strong customer relationships in the small/medium
business market. Our project included an assessment of such
channels and preliminary advice on developing appropriate
partnerships.
